Terms & Conditions

lease ensure that you read and understand the terms and conditions below.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

I have passed all three of the necessary qualifying exams and as such, I am on the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) register of Approved Driving Instructors to give driving tuition.

I am also a fully paid up member of the Motor Schools Association (MSA).

DRIVING LICENCE AND EYESIGHT:

You must hold a current valid driving licence (provisional or full), which must be produced on your first lesson.

You must also be able to read a car number plate at the required distance of 20.5 metres with glasses or contact lenses if normally worn. If these are required then you must wear them at ALL times when driving.

COMFORT AND SAFETY:

In the interests of comfort and safety you are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing, which does not restrict movement.

Please take careful note of any medication you are taking that may affect your ability to drive safely. Always read the instructions on the medicine very carefully and advise me accordingly.

LESSON TIMES AND DURATION:

My normal working hours are:

Monday to Thursday – 9am until 5:00pm.

Any hours outwith these are by arrangement only.

The normal lesson time is 2 hours as I find this most productive, but you may find an hour lesson as a beginner is sufficient.

BOOKING LESSONS:

Lessons are booked on a first come first served basis. To ensure that you continually get the time of day that suits you, consider booking your lessons up to 4 weeks in advance.

Driving tests and pre-test lessons will take priority, so be prepared for your lesson time being moved.

PUNCTUALITY:

In your own interest you are advised to be punctual for your lesson appointments.

I will normally wait for a maximum of 10 minutes only and then the lesson will be abandoned. The fee will be forfeited or become due for payment.

If I am likely to be delayed for more than 10 minutes I will endeavour to contact you beforehand to let you know.

Any lesson time lost as a result of this will be made up on a future lesson.

ABOUT YOUR LESSONS:

Lessons will normally start and finish in the same place. If you require picking up or dropping off at an alternative location, please let me know in plenty of time.

I am fairly flexible in regard to this, but please be aware that it will be your lesson time which will be reduced if I have to travel out with my normal working area.

LESSON PAYMENTS:

All lessons must be paid for before the start of the lesson.

My preferred payment option is bank transfer, but I will accept cash

CANCELLING LESSONS:

Cancellations by Pupil:

Providing that I receive sufficient notice of cancellation, I will not normally charge. By sufficient notice I mean at least 24 hours (1 full day).

Please be aware that a cancellation or no show on the day, gives me little time to make alternative arrangements and  means I suffer a loss of income.

I reserve the right to charge the full price of a lesson if you don’t turn up or cancel on the day.

I appreciate that you can be ill and at my discretion I may not charge you the cost of the lesson.

Repeated lesson cancellations on the day may mean that I take the action of cancelling any future lessons with you.

Cancellations by Me:

If I need to cancel or postpone your lesson, I will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible.

If this notice is less than 2 hours, I will offer you a free hour of lessons as compensation, except when the lesson is cancelled due to bad weather conditions or mechanical failure of the car.

I cannot be held personally responsible for any costs incurred as a result of having to postpone any lessons, for whatever reason.

THE DRIVING TEST:

Bookings:

If intending to use my car, you may book your driving test only after agreement with me.

You must notify me immediately of the driving test appointment so that I can make sure I am available and can enter the date in my diary.

If you intend to change the date of your test you must ask me in advance and check my availability.

Test Cancellation:

Three clear days notice of a cancellation or postponement (not including Sundays and public holidays) is required by the DVSA.

Failure to provide the required notice will result in the loss of your fee.

I cannot be held personally responsible for any postponement or cancellation of tests by the DVSA.

I also cannot be held responsible for any mechanical failure of my car that results in you being unable to start or complete your test.

I will however refund your test fee and cancel my lesson charges for the day.

Use of the vehicle:

In the interests of pupil and public safety, I reserve the right to withhold the use of my car for a test if, in my opinion, a pupil’s driving has not reached the required standard for the test.

Driving Instructors are now monitored and held responsible for the standard of pupil they present for test. I can be held to account by the DVSA if I bring a pupil to test not prepared to test standard.

I am not prepared to let this happen.

From the 1st January 2024 there will be a fee of £100 for the use of my car on test. This includes driving to Dundee Test Centre, a 1-hour pre-test lesson and the use of my car during the driving test.
